WATERS RECEIVES 2009 POLLUTION PREVENTION AWARDS FROM NATIONAL GROUP
Among the winners of the National Pollution Prevention Roundtable (NPPR) awards, the Pollution Prevention Resource Exchange (P2Rx) received a publication award for the 2009 P2Rx Calendar. Jean Waters, P2Rx coordinator, was named a Pollution Prevention Champion for her contributions and commitment. Waters is pictured with Jeff Burke, NPPR executive director, and Mike Johanns, U.S. senator from Nebraska.

In a ribbon-cutting ceremony Aug 21, NBDC officially opened its new office in Auburn. Staffed by Julie Wilhelm, NBDC procurement counselor, the office will provide government contracting assistance to businesses in southeast Nebraska. The new office is being funded under a grant from the U.S. Department of Defense. Summer 2009
Vicky Jones has joined NBDC as a new procurement technical assistance consultant for northeast Nebraska. She is now available to assist businesses wishing to sell their goods and services to government agencies. Before joining the NBDC, Jones worked for UNL Extension at the Northeast Research and Extension Center in Norfolk. There she initiated and managed distance learning projects funded by state and federal grants and was a member of the Community Resource Development action team.

Randy Bauer (center), commercial lender at First National Bank of Omaha, received recognition as the Second Congressional District SBA Financial Advocate of the Year 2009 Award winner from Leon Milobar (right), Nebraska district director, U.S. Small Business Administration. The award was presented May 8 at the SBA Empowerment Breakfast attended by over 120 people. Cliff Mosteller, NBDC Omaha center director nominated Mr. Bauer for the award.

SPRING 2009
NBDC says goodbye to grads. Peter Lilja from Sweden completed his master's degree in accounting and starts with Dellotte & Touche in July. Peter will also sit for the Certified Public Accountant Certificate. Maya Fadel from Lebanon completed her MBA and starts with ConAgra in July. Maya will travel to Lebanon for her wedding next month. |

Colin Flanagan is a new graduate assistant with the EntrepreneurShop. Colin is from Omaha , Nebraska and graduated from the University of Santa Clara in 2003 with a Bachelor’s degree in Finance. He has several years of professional experience in business/financial analysis & project management experience in financial services, communications, and government sectors. Colin is also a Russian speaker with international business experience in Central Asia . He will provide a full range of services to NBDC clients while earning his Master's in Business Administration from UNO.

Kate Carlin has been selected as NBDC's new procurement assistance consultant for the Lincoln area. Kate will be working out of the NBDC office located at 285 South 68th Street Place in Lincoln. Kate recently received her MBA degree from the University of Nebraska Omaha and has worked for the past two years as a graduate assistantin the procurement program. Andres Espinosa is a new consultant with the EntrepeneurShop. Andres is originally from Ibague, Colombia. He graduated with a bachelor of science in Business Administration with concentrations in International Business and Marketing from Wayne State College..
Andres gained experience in companies including PayPal, an eBay company in Omaha, and US BioEnergy, an ethanol plant, in Central City, Nebraska. He will provide a full range of services to all NBDC clients, in particular to those clients who need assistance in Spanish. Andres started his Master's in Business Administration program earlier this year at UNO.
