Environmental Innovation Workshop: EPA's SBIR Program Manager Visit
Come to the Environmental Innovation Workshop on March 6, 2008. The guest speaker is Dr. James Gallup, who is a registered engineer and the manager of the EPA SBIR.
The EPA's SBIR Program focuses on helping develop and commercialize innovative technologies needed by agency programs to reduce pollution and protect public health and the environment. For FY 2008, EPA SBIR budget constitutes $5 Million, and the estimated number of awards is 40 (30 for Phase I and 10 for Phase II). The upcoming solicitation will open March 20, 2008.
The attendees will have a chance to:
· Discover what technologies and research the U.S. EPA is seeking, what money is available and how to get proposals funded
· Get one-on-one feedback about your research area or innovative idea, how it fits with EPA objectives and opportunities for commercialization (If you would like to schedule a one-on-one meeting with James Gallup to discuss your ideas for an EPA-funded SBIR award or to discuss any other questions you may have, please e-mail Veronica Doga at vdoga@mail.unomaha.edu)
· Learn about EPA development topics including: innovation manufacturing, nanotechnology, green buildings, water and wastewater management, control of air pollution, air monitoring and remote sensing, engine and vehicle emissions reduction, waste management and monitoring, large-scale disaster debris management
.The Environmental Innovation Workshop is free of charge; however you have to register to attend. The Workshop will take place in the Thompson Alumni Center located on University of Nebraska at Omaha Campus.
The workshop is sponsored by the Nebraska Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) program in conjunction with the Iowa State University Office of Intellectual Property and Technology Transfer.

| NIH MAP |
NIH SBIR Manufacturing Assistance Program (MAP) is offering support to current Phase II awardees and/or to prior awardee firms that have received a Phase II award since January 2003. There are 25 slots available. Applications are evaluated and participants selected on an on-going basis. Last day to apply is February 14, 2008.
MAP was designed specifically to meet the many individual manufacturing challenges that SBIR awardees face. It offers assinstance with converting the research into products by helping to decrease the developmental costs, cycle time to market, and/or minimize anticipated operational expenses all the while increasing product quality.

| Tri-State SBIR Workshop |
| The state SBIR representatives from Iowa (Kris Johansen), Nebraska (Jean Waters) and South Dakota (Gary Archamboult), in conjunction with the Siouxland Initiative (Joseph Wright), are planning an informational Tri-State SBIR workshop.
This informative workshop covers the basics about the SBIR program, the opportunities that it offers, and how to communicate an innovative idea to federal agencies who solicit proposals for the SBIR or Small Business Technology Transfer (STTR) programs. More than $2.2 billion are available nation-wide to small businesses through these federal programs.
The Tri-State workshop will take place on April 16, 2008, in Sioux City, IA. |
| DHS FY08 Solicitation |
The Department of Homeland Security has released the 8.1 Solicitation for the FY2008. Proposals will be accepted through February 4th, 2008 by 3:30 CST. Proposals must be submitted electronically at http://www.sbir.dhs.gov/startproposals.asp.
The topic areas are: H-SB08.1-001 Assess Ability to use Eye Tracking and Pupil Dilation to Determine Intent to Deceive; H-SB08.1-002 Miniature Chem/Bio/Explosive Sensors; H-SB08.1-003 Mapping of Long-Term Threats, Vulnerabilities, and Impacts; H-SB08.1-004 Trace Explosives Sampling for Vehicle Borne Improvised Explosive Device (VBIED) Detection; H-SB08.1-005 Smart Sensor System.
