Council of Advisory Boards

WHAT WE DO
Ventures have greater prospects of success when they benefit from the knowledge of experienced professionals and entrepreneurs. The NBDC Council of Advisory Boards (NBDC-CAB) provides assistance to high growth potential ventures that can save money and increase the prospects for success. The Council acts as a matchmaker between an established business and area professionals who volunteer their expertise as members of an advisory board.

WHO ARE WE
NBDC-CAB is composed of experienced entrepreneurs and bankers, attorneys, real estate agents, accountants, and other professionals. They have agreed to serve on an advisory board for a high growth potential company for a period of 12 months and to meet as a board four times during that period. Each board meeting focuses on strategic planning.

HOW ARE YOU SELECTED
Ventures eligible for the NBDC-CAB program are identified by NBDC consultants (see right sidebar for general guidelines). NBDC selects four members of NBDC-CAB for a specific advisory board and arranges for the venture owner to meet with each. When all parties are comfortable with the relationship, the meetings go forward.

An NBDC-CAB advisory board is not a board of directors and has no fiduciary responsibility. Because of the experience of NBDC-CAB members, however, the presence of an NBDC-CAB advisory board can strengthen venture capital proposals.
